Lazy afternoon, diffused sunshine through the pale brown curtains
Fills the room and flows on to the bedspread blue
Silenced sniffles on a double bed, and an invisible tear drop or two
Afternoons resemble each other, in past and future, and situations
Similar, oh so alike, that did or would mark an end
Of a few moments’ memories – while questions unexplained, suspend
“You might not get something you waited for, would you still stay?”
“But someday soon, you sure’d go away!”
And a sigh and a kiss
And everything amiss
“Upset you be not, for it isn’t so easy, do you hear?”
The old question of a few nights before echoes “Will you disappear?”
And with all the words spoken, framing a difficult puzzle
While the meaningless possibilities howl out and inside, wrestle
“Go figure! Nothing much to say! There, let me show you your place!”
It’s only hard to hide your tears on some chosen days.
It Goes Without Saying
