eyes tight shut

well, we can close our eyes
all tight in their glorious tightest
best

feeling restless and helpless
refusing to accept the breeze
that moves the leaves
of the trees

and profess
to change things
hand in hand with time

but the eyelids and our eye
lashes long and strong
can and do only hide our eyes

from the light

that struggles to enter
to make its way through our eyes
and let us see

being self respectably human
is not taught
but is something of a way of life
how we be unto others

there is no pushing light
into us, none else can do it
for us but us, for ourselves

but our eyes
are just tight shut!
